Tenants: Are Your Entitled to Having a Dehumidifier

The housing market is a troubling place at the moment. With housing prices rising to incredible heights before the recession, many people found it hard to join the market. Now as we are in the recession, the house prices have been falling, however, because of the recession, it’s getting hard to get a mortgage.

This changing market has resulted in many people choosing to rent property rather than buying new. It’s not just home owners looking to rent property. Many property investors are looking more at buy to let mortgages as these are easier to get and the investment seems to get a better return.

Although you may not think so, there are a number of advantages to renting property. The main one would be that it’s easier to get a rental property because there are more available in the market. The monthly payments for rental property tend to be less than that of a mortgage. Tenants also have the advantage of not having to pay for any property maintenance that may be required. This responsibility normally falls on the landlord of the property.

One problem that often occurs in older property is mold. Even if you don’t have a problem with mold in your home, if you rent a flat, it could be someone else’s property that’s causing problems. Due to mold causing so many problems to your property and your health, you have the right to request a mold inspection, even if there are no signs of mold in your property. If steps are not made to remove any mold, you are allowed to withold rental payments until the work has been made.

Of coures there are appliances such as dehumidifiers that would reduce the change of getting mold in your property. A dehumidifier is used to reduce the humidity in your home to the safe levels which lies between 40%-60%. Purchasing a simple appliance like this will help to reduce humidity and therefore the chance of getting mold in your home.

A simple weather station can’t tell you how high the humidity is within your home, you’ll need a thermohygrometer to accurately measure the levels of humidity.
